Librarian Controller Functions

Every PAL includes Controller Functions that, when enabled, allow the Librarian to review all items submitted or published by members of the PAL and to take certain actions in respect of them. These actions mean the Librarian can exercise some control over the quality, quantity and relevance of items published in the PAL.

The Librarian can disable the Controller Functions temporarily or permanently, in which cases all items are submitted directly to Dadooda for publication.

Members of a PAL can easily ascertain whether the Controller Functions are enabled or disabled by referring to the “Library items” section on the PAL Profile page.

When the Controller Functions are enabled the Librarian can take the following actions in respect of library items:

  • Accept or Decline new items submitted by members
  • Suspend or Archive items currently published in the PAL
  • Reinstate archived items

Whenever the Librarian carries out one of these actions Dadooda sends a notification email to the member who submitted the item to notify him or her of the Librarian’s action.

Below is a summary of what each action means:

Accepted Item

The Librarian considers a newly submitted item is suitable for publication in the PAL and it has been transmitted to Dadooda for publication in the PAL. The member will receive a further confirmation email from Dadooda when it has been actually published in the PAL.

When published in the PAL, the item will move from the member’s My Pending Items to My Published Items.

Declined Item

The Librarian considers a newly submitted item is not suitable for publication in the PAL.

The item will continue to appear in the member’s My Pending Items, flagged as “Declined”. The member can edit the item and resubmit it, or delete it.

Suspended Item

The Librarian considers an item that has been published in the PAL is no longer suitable for publication, or requires editing, and has suspended it.

The item will move from the member’s My Published Items to My Pending Items, flagged as “Suspended”. The member can edit the item and resubmit it, or delete it.

Archived Item

The Librarian has archived a suspended item. Only the Librarian can reinstate it.

The item will appear in the member’s My Pending Items, flagged as “Archived”. However, the member will not be able to take any actions in respect of the item.

Reinstated Item

The Librarian has reinstated an archived item, which means it is republished in the PAL exactly as it appeared prior to being archived.

The item moves from the member’s My Pending Items to My Published Items. Once reinstated, an item is treated as an Accepted Item above.
