CREATIVE TALENT SURVEY - MILLIONS WANT TO WRITE NOVEL

More than half of Brits think they could write a bestselling novel, according to a new survey.

An astonishing 25 MILLION adults across the UK aspire to write an award winning novel or children’s book before they die.

By comparison, 23 per cent would like to become a professional musician, 22 per cent would like to take up photography and 21 per cent would like to dance.

But 46 per cent say their “second career” is taking a back seat as they are so busy with their first.

The poll of 3,000 people was conducted by www.canopychannel.com, a new website designed for all age groups to showcase their talent and creative skills.

Thirteen per cent of respondents would like to take up vocal coaching or join a band before they die, whilst one in 10 see themselves in a professional sporting event.

A staggering 41 per cent of people say they feel so passionately about their creative interest they are considering going back to University.

Whilst six in 10 people will take time out to join an appropriate evening course to allow them to ‘get creative’ away from their career.

But a third of people say lack of finances prevents them for pursuing their interest – whilst a further third say they are too bogged down with domestic chores.

A spokesman for www.canopychannel.com said: “Today the Internet enables people to share their talent or creative skills with a world wide audience and The Canopy Channel allows them to do it very simply and for free. In a matter of minutes a budding author, journalist, artist, photographer, video maker or musician can see their work published on our site”.

And when it comes to inspiration - J.K. Rowling is the author who most inspires people to get out their pen or pencil.

The Harry Potter series has earned the author more than $1 billion over the past 11 years, along with the respect of readers both old and young.

Her sixth book, ‘Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince’, sold more copies in 24 hours than the author Dan Brown’s ‘The Da Vinci Code’ sold in a year – the sixth most inspirational author in the poll.

But budding musicians and singing stars are most likely to model themselves on successful people such as Madonna, Kylie, Robbie Williams and Justin Timberlake.

Whilst potential sportsmen and women say people like Kelly Holmes and Tiger Woods get their hearts racing.

A spokesman for www.canopychannel.com continued: “This survey has confirmed what we thought. There is a wealth of untapped talent out there just waiting to be discovered. It’s not exclusive to X Factor contestants or the latest crop of sporting superstars. Now, the Canopy Channel gives people with the aspiration to excel in other pursuits an easy way to exhibit their talent, or even just to see their work published for the global Internet community to enjoy or learn from, which for many will be rewarding enough.”
