Role of the Librarian

Every PAL must have a nominated Librarian whose role is to organise and maintain the PAL. The tasks involved can all be performed from within the PAL environment, i.e. when the Librarian is online and logged into Dadooda.

You don’t need any special skills to be a Librarian.

The Librarian is also responsible for paying the PAL annual subscription and for purchasing additional library items when needed.

When a PAL is first set up the Librarian is always teh Dadooda member who sets it up and pays the first annual subscription to activate it. Thereafter, the Librarian can be changed at any time.

So, for example, it is possible for members of a PAL to share the role of Librarian using a rota system – say on a monthly or annual basis. Also, a temporary Librarian can be nominated while the permanent Librarian is unavailable to perform the role.

The Librarian has access to a range of functions via a special menu available only to the Librarian (the “Librarian Menu”). These functions are divided into two groups called Organiser Functions and Controller Functions.

Organiser Functions enable the Librarian to undertake the organisational and maintenance tasks required to customise the PAL for its particular purpose and to optimise its usefulness for the benefit of its members.

Controller Functions enable the Librarian to exercise some control over the quantity and quality of items published in the PAL so that, for example, the library contents are always relevant to the purpose of the PAL. The Controller Functions can be disabled by the Librarian.

The Librarian thus has an important role to play in a PAL, in terms of both its organisation and content.

However, it should be noted that Dadooda's Terms of Use and Standards of Publication apply without variation to all PALs. As a result, Dadooda reserves the right to reject, suspend or delete any item submitted for publication, or already published, in a PAL which it considers does not comply with it’s Terms of Use or Standards of Publication.

Below is a summary of all the functions available to the Librarian.
